Should a person be required to take a literacy test to register?
I do not think that a person should have to take a literacy test to register because being able to read has nothing to do with having a certain stance on something and wishing to make a difference by voting for something ther believe in. Just because someone is unable to read or write, does not mean that they are incapable in contributing ideas and votes to this country.

seriously? If someone isn't smart enough read or write how could they possibly educate themselves on what the issues are, what candidates think about said issues, or even how to vote?
ReplyDeletemaybe the people who are illiterate don't have access to schooling? or a learning disability? none of this means that they are incapable to help out in making decisions they believe to be right for the country. just because someone is unable to read does not mean that they are not "smart enough" to educate themselves on issues.
ReplyDeletetrue, but it does mean that they can't read or write. So they should educate themselves before giving their vote or opinion on something. Otherwise they should not be able to vote
ReplyDeleteooo i agree with everyone. i think you should be able to read and write if you are going to make a huge decision on who should be in charge of the united states. but how could you vote if you cant even read the ballot? i just think you should be educated on whats going on if your going to vote.
ReplyDeleteEveryone has access to school. Thats why we have a public school system which really should be teaching everyone to read. So, If one can't read and write how will one understand all the political jargon and complex issues that surround an election.
